Study Exchange with the Republic of Korea

The prestigious Seoul National University (SNU), founded in 1946, was the first national university of Korea and has currently about 28,000 students. SNU was ranked as 10th best university in Asia in the QS University Rankings: Asia 2016.

Per academic year up to three exchange students from Heidelberg can go to Seoul for 1-2 semesters. There they can participate in a wide range of courses for example at the Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS). 
Students from the M.A. Transcultural Studies and from partner institutes of the Cluster are welcome to apply. The deadline for application is January 31, 2019.

Financial support

- Exchange students will be exempt from tuition.


- You can apply for the PROMOS scholarship via the International Office at Heidelberg University. You can find the details here.

-  The application for a "Baden Württemberg Stipendium" is open to all students. Please see the call for applications here.
Application deadline: 31 March


To apply for the exchange, please send the following documents in one single pdf-file in due time to Ms. Nora Bartels, administrative assistant to the Chair of Cultural Economic History:

all in one pdf-file:
-    letter of motivation, including the reason for choosing the partner university
     and planned topic of the master thesis
-    CV
-    university certificates and transcripts of records
-    proof of English proficiency (TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS 5.5 or higher, TEPS 551)
-    knowledge of Korean advantageous

and sent directly by the lecturer:
-    letter of recommendation from a university lecturer

All application material, including the letter of recommendation, has to be in English.

- Do I have to apply for the scholarship separately?
  Depending on the availability of funds, the application for the DAAD
  scholarship will happen automatically if your application for the exchange   
  was successful. We will then let you know which forms need to be filled out.
  An application for the "PROMOS scholarship" or the "Baden Württemberg
  Stipendium" must be done separately. Please see the details above.
