General Requirements

Applications can be submitted only for the winter term each year.

Students wishing to apply for the M.A. Transcultural Studies must hold a B.A. or equivalent (minimum three years of study) in a discipline of the humanities, cultural or social sciences with an above average grade.

They need to prove very good proficiency in English by means of either one of the following:

  • a minimum score of 90 in the internet-based, 230 in the computer-based, or 575 in the paper-based TOEFL
  • a minimum score of 6.5 in the IELTS
  • a minimum score of 730 in the TOIEC
  • a CAE
  • a certificate of the language centre of Heidelberg University with "good" (2.0) or better

Other means of proof can also be accepted as equivalent - please inquire with the programme coordinator.

Furthermore, good knowledge of two more languages, including the respective mother tongue, is mandatory.

International Applicants

For non-German applicants, the general regulations and deadlines of Heidelberg University for international students apply. They have to submit a formal application in print

by June 15th

to the International Relations Office.

The International Relations Office administers the the application process and provides information on the application in general. The application should include the following documents:

  • filled-in application form
  • CV
  • certified copies of degree certificate and transcript of records
  • proof of very good English and good knowledge in two further languages
  • optionally a letter of motivation.

German Applicants

German applicants need to prove that they meet the requirements for admission to the M.A. Transcultural Studies by submitting their respective documents to the programme coordinator. Upon positive evaluation by the admission committee, they will receive a confirmation and can enroll for the programme at the Central Student Administration of Heidelberg University. They can do so within the general deadlines for enrolment to the winter term each year.
