Getting a Job
Finding a job can seem a daunting task, especially when you are faced with such a variety of fields and the issue of preparing applications. The university's Graduate Academy provides advice on professional and academic development through various workshops and one-to-one meetings. In addition, the university has a general Career Service (in German) that can be approached, which also offers individual counselling and open consultation.
Choosing a Career Path
The first step is deciding what kind of work you'd like to pursue. While some people will already have a strong idea of what they want to do after completing their studies, others will find themselves uncertain. It is important to approach the task of choosing a career path with an open mind, and to do thorough research on what is available. A list of general job portals for academic and non-academic postings can be found here.
Preparing your Application
When preparing an application, impression management (or self-presentation) is key. To help with this, the university's career service offers training and information sessions. They also provide an internship and job market board, with details of current vacancies and other opportunities.
