Publication
The presentations made at the workshop held in June 2010 in Heidelberg would be published in a special issue of Transcultural Studies, a peer-reviewed e-journal of the Heidelberg Research Cluster "Asia and Europe in a Global Context: Shifting Asymmetries in Cultural Flows". The advantage of an e-journal would be to utilise the interactivity and multimedia content along with the textual arguments. Some papers have already been submitted by the participants while a few are expected soon.
Some of the contributors and their tentative subject will be as follows:
1 | Nizamuddin’s Heritage Buildings and Delhi’s Urban Face-lift (Yousuf Saeed | Delhi |
2 | Sufi Shrines and Built Environments in Visual Culture(Sandria B. Freitag, North Carolina State University) | Lahore/Delhi |
3 | The flow of images to, from, and between Shia shrines (Ingvild Flaskerud, Uni Global, the University of Bergen) | Iran/Norway |
4 | Reconciling Misunderstandings: Sufism at the Urs of Inayat Khan, (Udo Simon, Jan Scholz and Max Stille, University of Heidelberg, Germany) | Delhi |
5 | Posters Advertising the Pilgrimage Ceremonies at North Indian Sufi Shrine (Yousuf Saeed, New Delhi | Delhi/UP |
6 | “Chalo Bulawa Aaya Hai”: Devotional Music Videos in Sufi Shrines (Suboor Bakht, New Delhi | Delhi/Haryana |
7 | Maijbhandari Songs on VCD: Translating a Traditional Genre of Devotional Sufi Songs from Bangladesh into Video Clips(Hans Harder, University of Heidelberg, Germany) | Bangladesh |
