The final international conference of the Junior Research Group "Harbin" has been held between November 25 and 27, 2010. Dr. Frank Grüner, Junior Research Group Leader, along with Susanne Hohler and Sören Urbansky organized this conference with the specific focus on border towns in Northeast Asia in early 20th Century.

June 2009: International Conference, Harbin, China

 The international conference outside of Germany of the the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe” has been held between June 17 to 20, 2009. In partnership with Heilongjiang University and German Historical Institute, Dr. Frank Grüner, Junior Research Group Leader organized an international conference titled "Global Challenge and Regional Response. Early 20th Century Northeast China and Harbin."

Ethnic Ghettos and Transcultural Processes in a Globalized City

April 2008: International Conference, Heidelberg, Germany

The first international workshop of the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe” has been held between April 18 and 19, 2008. Frank Grüner and Ines Prodöhl arranged a workshop on “Ethnic Ghettoes and Transcultural Processes in a Globalized City.” The two-day event focused on recent research on Harbin both in outside China.

June 2009: Summer School, Harbin, China

In honor of Heinz-Dietrich Löwe, this conference took place in Heidelberg between October 23 and 25, 2009. It was jointly organized by Felicitas Fischer von Weikersthal, Frank Grüner, Susanne Hohler, Franziska Schedewie, Ralph Tuchtenhagen, Raphael Utz and Katja Wezel, and funded by the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context.”
