About Sinjini Mukherjee

Sinjini has studied Sociology at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and was awarded the MA and MPhil degrees in 2006 and 2008, respectively. Her MPhil dissertation titled 'Of Midwifery, Cords and the Afterbirth: Contrasting Conceptions of the Body and Reproductive Health' is a comparative research on birthing and birth attendants in biomedical and non-biomedical set-ups which situates contemporary debates in the field within their specific socio-historical frames of reference. She joined the Cluster of Excellence 'Asia and Europe' in 2009 and is a doctoral candidate at the Ethnologie (social anthropology) Department of the South Asia Institute. Her current research is on organ transplantation in India.
