About Li Yu

Dr. Yu joins the chair of Intellectual History as a visiting scholar for the academic year of 2009-2010. She holds a position as Assistant Professor of Chinese Language and Culture in the Department of Asian Studies at Williams College (Massachusetts, USA). She received her doctorate in the field of Chinese Language Pedagogy and Cultural History in the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at the Ohio State University. Her current research projects continue to reflect her interests in both history and pedagogy of reading. She is working on a book manuscript titled A Culture of Reading in Late Imperial China, which examines the practice and representation of reading for four groups of readers: children, men, women, and non-Han peoples. During her stay at the Cluster, she will be focusing on a project titled “The Role of Language and Reading in Transcultural Flows: the Cases of Jesuits and Jews in Late Imperial China.”
