About Jacob Birken

Jacob Birken (*1978 in Katowice) studied Art & Art Sciences in Karlsruhe, Germany. In 2002-2004, he worked as a researcher & coder for Global Icons, a project by the Volkswagen-Stiftung and the Berlin Weißensee School of Art, and later as a project assistant at the House of World Cultures in Berlin. Between 2009 and 2012, he worked at the research project “Global Art and the Museum” at ZKM Karlsruhe, where he co-curated the exhibition The Global Contemporary; since 2010, he is curator for the Karlsruhe art space Kunstraum: Morgenstrasse. He started working in the Cluster project D17 in April 2012 and is additionally pursuing a PhD project on the artistic depiction of the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire with Prof. Wolfgang Ullrich at the University of Art and Design in Karlsruhe.
