In his M.A. thesis he analyzed the local use of Siddha medicine in south India in the context of the global HIV/AIDS pandemic. Since September 2008, Christoph Cyranski is a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the South Asia Institute Heidelberg and member of the research projects 'Asymmetrical translations: Mind and body in European and Indian medicine' and 'Making India a global healthcare destination: A social study of high-tech hospitals and neo-oriental spas' at the Cluster of Excellence 'Asia and Europe in a Global Context' at Heidelberg University. His dissertation investigates transformations of Ayurvedic practice through intercultural encounters in a south Indian Ayurvedic health resort.
