Theatre Play "Man in the Holocene"

Mar 02, 2015

The theatre play "Man in the Holocene" by Max Frisch was staged in German on February 22 and 23 at artes liberales - universitas in Heidelberg. The event was organised by project D17 "Images of Disasters" in collaboration with artes liberales - universitas in context of the exhibition "Von Atlantis bis heute - Mensch. Natur. Katastrophe".

The theatre group "Theater Neumarkt" from Zurich, Switzerland, gave a guest performance in German with actor Martin Butzke. The novella "Man in the Holocene" by Max Frisch was first published in 1979. Frisch tells the story of elderly Mr. Geiser, who stays in the Valle Maggia in Southern Switzerland. During torrential rains he reflects about himself and his environment. As his mind begins to forget everyday things, he is looking at a broader cosmos of life.

The event was a collaboration of project "Images of Disasters", coordinated by Prof. Monica Juneja and Prof. Gerrit Jasper Schenk, with artes liberales - universitas, gemeinnuetzige GmbH, headed by Clemens Bellut. It was organised in context of the exhibition "Von Atlantis bis heute - Mensch. Natur. Katastrophe" in the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen Mannheim.
