Sophie Roche at Duke and George Washington Universities

On Tuesday, February 21, Dr. Sophie Roche gave a lecture on “The Moscow Cathedral Mosque in the Life of Migrants from Central Asia” at the Central Asia Program (CAP) at George Washington University, Washington. In her talk, she unfolded the social life of migrants in, around and through the main mosque in Moscow. On Wednesday, February 15, Dr. Roche already participated in a panel discussing the topic “Preserving Culture at the Fringes in Authoritarian States”, which took place at Duke University, Durham. In her presentation, she focused on "Muslim and Migrant in Moscow: Bazaar Workers from Tajikistan". Sophie Roche is currently leading the subproject “The Demographic Turn in the Junction of Cultures”, which is part of the project C16 “Unfolding Central Asia” at the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe”.
