SOAS Festivity with Lieselotte Saurma

Oct 01, 2013

Prof. Lieselotte Saurma participated in the inaugural lecture of Prof. Anna Contadini at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. Anna Contadini was inaugurated as Professor of the History of Islamic Art on April 24th 2013.

Prof. Saurma held a vote of thanks, following Professor Contadini’s inaugural lecture. She called Professor Contadini “an ambassador underlining the importance of eastern cultures for the west” and praised her “knowledge of Cross- and Transcultural processes”.

Prof.Contadini gave a lecture on the appreciation of Middle Eastern artefacts in Medieval and Renaissance Europe. She argued that this appreciation demonstrates openness to a transcultural dimension and an interest in the Islamic world extending to areas of intellectual enquiry.

Lieselotte Saurma is Senior Professor of Medieval Art History at Heidelberg University and the coordinator of research project D3 “Images of Alterity”. Prof. Anna Contadini is a collaborative member of Professor Saurma’s project.
