Researchers at DAAD Postgraduate Summer School

Barbara Mittler, Emily Mae Graf and Laila Abu-Er-Rub represented the Cluster at the Postgraduate Summer School in German Studies on the theme "Culture in a Global Context". It took place at Oxford University from July 7-10, 2015 and was supported by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service).

Professor Barbara Mittler gave the Plenary lecture on Thursday morning on “Powers of the Press – a Transcultural Perspective”. Emily Mae Graf and Laila Abu-Er-Rub both presented their PhD research to demonstrate an applied Transcultural Research Perspective to the audience. Emily Graf gave a talk with the title "Brecht: An Uncomfortable Hero", while Laila Abu-Er-Rub spoke on "Western wear and Indian wear: Challenging Eurocentrism through a Transcultural Perspective on Indian fashion".

Barbara Mittler is professor for Chinese Studies at the Institute of Chinese Studies in Heidelberg and Acting Director of the Cluster/HCTS. Emily Mae Graf is pursuing her PhD in the Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies. Laila Abu-Er-Rub is member of project MC15 "Powers of the Press", coordinator of Research Area B "Public Spheres" and the HERA Single project.

The Postgraduate Summer School in German Studies "Culture in a Global Context" was hosted by the University of Oxford and supported by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service). The DAAD is a funding organisation for the international exchange of students and researchers.
