New book on India in the Contemporary World

Dr. Jivanta Schöttli, Dr. Jakub Zajączkowski and Dr. Manish Thapa have published a new book titled “India in the Contemporary World: Polity, Economy and International Relations”. Jivanta Schöttli is an associate member of the Cluster “Asia and Europe” and former member of research project A1 “Citizenship”.

This book brings together Indian and European perspectives on India’s polity, economy and international strategy. It explores internal, regional and global determinants shaping India’s status, position and goals in the early 21st century. Through an array of methodological and theoretical approaches, it presents debates on democracy, economic development, foreign and security policy, and the course of India–European Union relations.

The book contains 19 articles written by researchers from Europe and India including Prof. Subrata K. Mitra, the Head of the Department of Political Science in the South Asia Institute (SAI) of Heidelberg University and former speaker of Research Area A at the Cluster “Asia and Europe” .

The coeditor Dr. Jivanta Schöttli is postdoctoral scholar at the Research Centre for Distributional Conflict and Globalisation of Heidelberg University and was formerly lecturer in Political Science at the South Asia Institute. She is also associate member of the Cluster “Asia and Europe”. She is deputy editor of Heidelberg Papers in South Asian and Comparative Politics (HPSACP). In 2011 she received the Hengstberger Prize for Young Scientists at Heidelberg University. Dr. Jakub Zajaczkowski is Assistant Professor at the Institute of International Relations of University of Warsaw in Poland. Dr. Manish Thapa is Assistant Professor at the Department of Conflict, Peace and Development Studies at Tribhuvan University in Nepal.

The book “India in the Contemporary World: Polity, Economy and International Relations” has been published by Routledge Chapman & Hall in May, 2014.
