M.A. Transcultural Studies welcomes Applications

Jun 05, 2013

The M.A. Transcultural Studies at Heidelberg University welcomes students from all over the world. The application deadline for international students was June 15th 2013.

The M.A. Transcultural Studies is an international Master program with an interdisciplinary and trans-regional focus. The program is based on the perspective that cultures are not seen as ethnically closed, linguistically homogenous, and territorially contained entities. Moreover they are constituted through transformations and entanglements with one and another. During the program, students can choose between three study foci: “Society, Economy, and Governance”, “Visual, Media, and Material Culture”, or “Knowledge, Belief, and Religion”.

The M.A. Transcultural Studies starts every winter term. This year students will start the program in October 2013. Applicants must hold a B.A. or equivalent in a discipline of the humanities, cultural or social sciences. Furthermore, they need to prove very good proficiency in English and two more languages. International students could submit their applications until June 15, 2013, to the International Relations Office of Heidelberg University. German students can enroll according to the University's enrolment deadlines. They should send their respective documents to the program coordinator Oliver Lamers.

The wide range of core courses will be given by the five Chairs and their teams of the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context”: Prof. Dr. Christiane Brosius, Chair for Visual and Media Anthropology; Prof. PhD Harald Fuess, Chair for Cultural Economic History; Prof. Dr. Monica Juneja, Chair for Global Art History; Prof. Dr. Birgit Kellner, Chair for Buddhist Studies; and Prof. Dr. Joachim Kurtz, Chair for Intellectual History.
