Information evening on the HCTS

Jul 02, 2013

The Cluster invited to an information evening about the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS) and its fellowship programme. It was introduced on Thursday, July 4, 2013, at the Karl Jaspers Centre. The HCTS is a new Institute for Advanced Studies at Heidelberg University.

The Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies is open to all disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. It brings together scholars from all over the world to engage in an interdisciplinary dialogue and to enhance their understanding of transcultural processes. The HCTS has been founded in April 2013 building on the structures established by the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe". After the Excellence Initiative and the Cluster's second funding phase expire in 2017, the Cluster will fully be merged into the HCTS.

To provide a tight connection between research and teaching, a Master Programme as well as a Doctoral Programme in Transcultural Studies are offered by the HCTS. The five tenured professors of Buddhist Studies, Cultural Economic History, Global Art History, Intellectual History and Visual and Media Anthropology will foster academic exchange and deepen the already existing expertise in the participating disciplines. In addition, a fellowship programme is offered that invites senior and junior fellows to pursue their research from a transcultural perspective within the interdisciplinary environment of the HCTS. Currently the HCTS welcomes applications for eight fellowships. Application deadline is October 1, 2013.

The HCTS and the fellowship programme were introduced on July 4 at 6 pm at the Karl Jaspers Centre in room 212. The information evening was open to all those interested.
