HCTS Fellows 2015/16 appointed

The Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS) is proud to welcome renowned scholars from Heidelberg and around the world. The future Fellows will research under the theme "'In the name of Truth and Justice' – The violence of universalisms" at the Karl Jaspers Centre, starting in autumn 2015.

Senior Fellows will be Prof. Dr. Dr. hc. Jens Halfwassen and Prof. Dr. Winrich Löhr. Jens Halfwassen is Professor of Philosophy at Heidelberg University. During his research stay, he will work on Platonism in Late Antiquity ("Zwischen Orientalismus und Hellenismus: Platonismus in der Spätantike"). Winrich Löhr is Professor for Ecclesiastical History at Heidelberg University. He will research on "The Emergence of Christian Universalism". Both senior scholars will actively cooperate with each other.

Visiting Fellows from other universities include Dr. Joseph Cohen, Dr. Raphael Zagury-Orly, Dr. Su Fang Ng and Dr. habil. Markus Dreßler. Joseph Cohen is Lecturer in Philosophy at the University College Dublin (Ireland) and Raphael Zagury-Orly is Associate Professor of Philosophy at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem (Israel). Together, they will research on the topic "'Truth supposes Justice'. The Future of Universalism". Su Fang Ng is Associate Professor of English at the University of Oklahoma (USA) and will focus on "Translingual Spice: Language, Literature, and Religion in the Early Modern East Indies". Dr. habil. Markus Dreßler is currently Visiting Professor for the Social Scientific Study of Religion at Goettingen University and will research on "Early Turkish Intellectual Discourses on Turkish nationhood beyond the Universalist Binaries of Modernism" at the HCTS.

The Fellows will be in residence in Heidelberg for a period ranging from six up to twelve months. Besides financial support, the Fellows will be able to make use of the excellent infrastructure of the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies and meet many scholars also from the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context".

Founded in April 2013, the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS) is a central institute of Heidelberg University situated at the Karl Jaspers Centre. Building on the structures established by the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context", it assembles outstanding scholars from all over the world and from any discipline to engage in an interdisciplinary dialogue with a focus on the dynamics of global transcultural processes. The Centre offers a Master’s and a Doctoral Programme in Transcultural Studies.
