Documentary Film on British Asian Musicians

The documentary film "Buy More Incense" on Asian musicians in Great Britain was shown at the Karl Jaspers Centre on Wednesday, January 19, 2011.

In the film "Buy More Incense", British Asian musicians talk about their music, the Music business and their own position in British society. Mostly Indian and Pakistani musicians of the second and third generation in the UK have been interviewed and show also a glimpse of their music style, such as Bhangra, Worldfusion-Cyberstyle or Break Beats.

The documentary "Buy More Incense" has been produced by Dr. Thomas Burkhalter and Michael Spahr. Thomas Burkhalter is an ethnomusicologist and music journalist from Bern, Switzerland. Besides, he is the founder and editor-in-chief of norient - Independant Network for Local and Global Sounds.

On Thursday, January 20, he will hold a workshop on the same topic, taking place in room 112 between 2:30 and 6:00 pm.

The film sceening and the workshop have been organised by research project B2 "Creative Dissonances". The project is coordinated by Prof. Barbara Mittler, Prof. Dorothea Redepenning and Dr. Oliver Seibt.
