Cooperation with Jawaharlal Nehru University

May 10, 2012

The Cluster "Asia and Europe" cooperates with various institutions around the globe, for instance the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India.

The aim of the cooperation is to increase the exchange between the School of Arts and Aesthetics at Jawaharlal Nehru University and the Cluster ”Asia and Europe”. Short-term fellowships, joint research projects and workshops are possible especially within the scope of research areas B “Public Spheres” and D “Heritage and Historicities”. For instance, the School of Arts and Aesthetics has worked together with research project B4 “Transcultural Visuality Learning Group”.

Jawaharlal Nehru University´s School of Arts and Aesthetics is the only place in India where the study of arts is integrated into a programme that allows students to understand the individual arts in the broader context of history, sociology, politics, semiotics, gender, and cultural studies. The three fields of study offered are Visual Studies, Theatre and Performance, as well as Cinema Studies.

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is located in New Delhi and was established in the early 1970s. It is mainly a research-oriented postgraduate University. JNU offers a teacher-student ratio of 1:10 and its mode of instruction encourages students to explore their own creativity instead of reproducing received knowledge. JNU's mission is to combine new perspective with the traditional  disciplines of the Indian university system. Moreover, JNU is dedicated to the Nehruvian objectives of national integration, social justice, secularism, the democratic way of life, international understanding and scientific approach to the problems of society.

For further information about the cooperation and the JNU please contact Prof. Parul Dave Mukherji from JNU's School of Arts and Aesthetics.
