Cluster holds General Meeting

Feb 04, 2016

On Thursday afternoon, the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context" held its General Meeting at the Karl Jaspers Centre for Advanced Transcultural Studies.

On behalf of Acting Director Prof. Axel Michaels, who had been awarded the Höffmann Award for Intercultural Competence in Vechta on the same day, Co-Director Prof. Joseph Maran headed the meeting. In the Report of the Director, he reviewed the main activities of the past few months and informed about latest awards, appointments and publications by Cluster members. Further, he gave an overview of the developments in the MA Transcultural Studies and the new application round of the Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies. Subsequently, scientific project manager Oliver Lamers gave important information for project leaders and members, especially for the conclusion phase of their projects. Prof. Maran then gave an update on the German Excellence Initiative and an insight into the report of the so-called "Imboden-Commission", that has reviewed the Excellence Initiative so far and gives suggestions for the future. Finally, the scheduled dates for the summer term were announced. Dr. Philipp Stockhammer introduced this year's Annual Conference, which will take place in October on the topic "Making, Sustaining, Breaking. The Politics of Heritage and Culture".

The next General Meeting will take place in April 2016. The General Meeting is a major event at the Cluster, where all members come together and exchange important information.
