Feb 06, 2014

On Thursday evening, the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context" held its General Meeting at the Karl Jaspers Centre for Advanced Transcultural Studies.

After a short welcome, Acting Director Prof. Barbara Mittler informed the Cluster members about the latest news and developments. In particular, she mentioned the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS) that will be the sustainable structure after the Cluster's funding period ends. At the HCTS, several activities will take place such as luncheons and the HCTS lectures of which the first one took place this week. In the upcoming week there will be a workshop week organised by the Heidelberg Research Architecture which offers teaching in various digital resources.

Subsequently, Prof. Mittler introduced new research projects by Cluster members that are funded by the University's Field of Focus 3 "Cultural Dynamics in Globalised Worlds", the Academy of Sciences or the German Research Foundation. She also mentioned the new members of the Cluster who introduced themselves.

Prof. Mittler invited the Cluster members to several upcoming events such as the HRA workshop week starting on February 10 and the opening of the HCTS on April 28. She informed that the call for applications for the Summer School "Politics of Near Futures: Possibilities, Prophecies, Prognoses" is out as well as the call for panels for the Annual Conference "Cultural Mediation: Creativity, Performance, Display".

Finally, Barbara Mittler expressed her thanks to Scientific Project Manager Oliver Lamers for his great contribution. Co-director Prof. Joseph Maran thanked Barbara Mittler in the name of the Directorate for the endless work that she contributed to the Cluster during her Acting Directorship. In the summer semester, Prof. Axel Michaels will take over the Acting Directorship from Prof. Mittler.

The General Meeting is a major event at the Cluster, because all members come together and exchange important information. The General Meeting is held at the beginning and at the end of every semester.

The next General Meeting will be on April 17 at 4 pm.
