Workshop: Keeping an Eye on Photography

Nov 03, 2017 - Nov 05, 2017
Organiser: Research Area B

Keeping an eye on Photography - Towards a critical reading of photography in a global context

Workshop organised by Cathrine Bublatzky in context of the project "Contemporary photography as a cultural practice by diasporic Iranians in Europe".

Kick off-Workshop, 3. – 5. November 2017 in Heidelberg, organised by Dr. Cathrine Bublatzky and financially supported by the “Eliteprogramme for Postdocs of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung”.

Abstract: The workshop explores the visual culture of photography as central medium of socio-political expression. With a focus on different genres of photography, this interdisciplinary workshop asks for studies that engage with photography as cultural knowledge production created by artists, journalists or private persons. Following the idea of a ‘photographic situation’ which strongly interlinks photographer, photographed and spectator, the workshop emphasises the multiplicity of (trans)cultural interaction that photography creates according to its production, circulation, and spectating.

This is a closed event and only for invited guests.
