Reception in Honour of Professor Quack

On Thursday afternoon, a reception in honour of Professor Joachim Friedrich Quack was held at the Karl Jaspers Centre. The Egyptologist has been awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
Cluster's Acting Director Prof. Dr. Madeleine Herren-Oesch congratulated Prof. Dr. Joachim Friedrich Quack and mentioned some of his outstanding achievements. Subsequently, Prof. Quack described how he received the news about the Leibniz Prize.
The award, which is the foremost distinction presented for research in Germany, comes with a purse of 2.5 million Euros, with the purpose of financing future research projects by the Heidelberg scholar.
The DFG pronounced Prof. Quack as one of the “world’s most eminent Egyptologists from Germany”. For the year 2011, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft announced a total of four women and six men as award winners. Prof. Quack is the sole recipient from the social sciences and humanities. The awards ceremony takes place in March 2011 in Berlin.
