Cluster holds General Meeting

On Thursday afternoon, the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context” held its General Meeting at the Karl Jaspers Centre for Transcultural Studies.
During the General Meeting, the Cluster’s Acting Director Prof. Axel Michaels informed the members about the presentation of the Cluster on January 18th in Berlin. The presentation was part of the renewal application of the Cluster for a second funding period. Subsequently, Prof. Barbara Mittler thanked the Cluster’s three directors Prof. Madeleine Herren-Oesch, Prof. Axel Michaels und Prof. Rudolf G. Wagner for their work and effort.
Furthermore, Prof. Michaels informed about the latest news and welcomed new members. Among others, Takuma Melber has joined research area C “Health & Environment” as a coordinator, and Sabine Schenk came as an assistant in the Cluster’s event department.
Eric Decker informed about recent developments of the Heidelberg Research Architecture (HRA). In particular, he announced the upcoming HRA Workshop Week. During the week from February 6 to 10, 2012, a wide range of courses will be offered. Among others, the metadata framework Tamboti will be introduced. In addition, courses in visualisation tools, the computer programs Photoshop and InDesign, Typo3, Public Relations and on Editing will be given.
Further upcoming events include the Jour Fixe, which will be reorganised to better stimulate discussion on key concepts and terms, the conference “Imaging Disaster” (March 1-3), the “Asian Sea Conference” (July 5-7), the Summer School “Seeing Matter(s): Materiality and Visuality” (July 29-August 4) and the Annual Conference “Things that Connect – Pathways of Materiality and Practice” (October 10-12).
The General Meeting, which is held at the beginning and at the end of each semester, is one of the most important internal events at the Cluster. All members come together to exchange crucial information and to update each other on the latest developments.
