Interviews with Participants of Summer School 2015

This year's summer school titled "Walking the line – Art of border zones in times of crisis" ran from July 26 to 31. Beside the inspiring talks, heated discussions, intellectual but also friendly atmosphere, how was the six-day experience for the 23 young scholars? The Summer School provided them with a platform for ‘give and take’. They came to Heidelberg with their own specialities to offer to the Summer School, and at the end, left with something new. Egyptian artist and researcher Heba, Heidelberg Research Fellow Danijel, art writer Cristina, and researcher on modern architecture Pathmini shared their own "give and take" with us. Academic network, global perspective, intellectual environment, and interdisciplinary exchange are what they benefited the most during the summer school. read more

SAI "Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund Heidelberg"

The "Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund Heidelberg" provides help for the victims of the earthquakes that struck Nepal in late April and early May 2015. The initiative has been established by the South Asia Institute with support of members of the Cluster/HCTS. read more

Report: Workshop on Ageing in South Asia and Europe

The international workshop on "New Approaches to Ageing in South Asia and Europe" took place at the India International  Centre and Goethe-Institut New Delhi from February 24 to 26, 2015. It was organized by research project "Ageing in a Transcultural Context" from the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context" at Heidelberg University and brought together international junior and senior scholars working on different aspects of ageing from a cultural perspective. Heidelberg Lecture 2015 with Andreas Kruse

"Contemporary Images of Age and Ageing: Vulnerability, Strengths and Developmental Potentials" was the title of the Heidelberg Lecture 2015 held by Prof. Andreas Kruse. The event took place on February 24, 2015, in New Delhi. Organized by the Heidelberg Center South Asia, the talk opened the international workshop "New Approaches to Ageing in South Asia and Europe" of the Cluster's research project B19 "Ageing in a Transcultural Context". Report: Workshop on Water in Asia

"Epistemologies of Water in Asia" was the title of an international workshop organised by Dr. Ravi Baghel on behalf of research project MC9 "Waterscapes in Transcultural Perspective". In December 2014, a group of young scholars met at the Karl Jaspers Centre to discuss the epistemologies of water in regard to the three aspects discourses, controversies, and semantics.In the following report, Lea Stepan and Ravi Baghel review the workshop. read more
