Winter semester 19/20: Lecture series "Ambivalent Enmity"

The Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS) is cooperating with the Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg in the winter semester 2019/20 for the lecture series "Ambivalent Enmity," which takes place on Thursdays at 6 pm at the Centre for Asian and Transcultural Studies.

Cluster mourns Rudolf G. Wagner

The Cluster mourns Professor Rudolf G. Wagner, who passed away on October 25, 2019 at the age of 77. Rudolf G. Wagner taught and conducted research as the professor of Sinology at the Center for East Asian Studies at Heidelberg University, and was co-initiator behind the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context."

New collection in honor of Prof. Rudolf Wagner

Prof. Barbara Mittler is co-editor of “China and the World – the World and China: A Transcultural Perspective,” a recently published collection of four volumes of essays in honor of Prof. Rudolf G. Wagner, former director of the Cluster “Asia and Europe.” Several HCTS members figure among the contributors.

New monograph by Cathrine Bublatzky

Dr. Cathrine Bublatzky published her ethnographic study “Along the Indian Highway,” which is based on a travelling exhibition of Indian contemporary art. Entrenched in the field of global and transcultural studies, the book is part of Routledge series “Visual and Media Histories” edited by HCTS Prof. Monica Juneja.

Closing Conference: "New Directions in Transcultural Studies"

The closing conference of the Cluster "Asia and Europe in a Global Context" will take place on October 31, 2019. This final conference, titled "New Directions in Transcultural Studies," will mark the completion of the Cluster and its transition into the Heidelberg Centre of Transcultural Studies.

Christiane Brosius organizes workshop "Ageing in the City"

The student workshop "Ageing in the City" took place in the context of the project "New Directions in 'Active Ageing'" from September 27-30 at the School of Planning and Architecture in Delhi. It was organized by Prof. Christiane Brosius, the HCTS professor of Visual and Media Anthropology and architect and urban designer Prof. Arunava Dasgupta from the SPA.
