Student Assistant with Knowledge of Arabic

The Start-Up Professorship (historical and philological focus) at the Cluster of Excellence Asia and Europe is looking for a Student Assistant for 30 hours per month as of April 1st 2014.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Teaching assistance in MA courses on the History of the Euromediterranean (ca. 300 to 1600 CE)
  2. Various tasks including independent bibliographical research and source analysis linked to a project dealing with the entanglement of Latin and Arabic from Antiquity to the modern age and the Arabic documentation of the discovery of South America.

We are looking for applicants with the following profile:

  1. Good to excellent knowledge of Arabic and the willingness to engage regularly with Arabic texts from different periods
  2. Computer literate (Microsoft Office, Zotero)
  3. Interest in a long-term position (min. 1 year)
  4. BA or MA in the humanities or social sciences, preferably history, Near Eastern Studies
  5. Dependable, detail-oriented
  6. Copy-Editing experience a plus
