Call for Applications: Doctoral Scholarships Available

Feb 29, 2012

The Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies of the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context” welcomes applications for up to eight doctoral scholarships. Applicants should submit their papers until May 15, 2012.

The Graduate Programme offers a monthly scholarship of 1000 Euro. Future scholarship holders will be supported in framing their research through advanced courses, individual supervision, and mentoring. Half of the scholarships are reserved for young scholars from Asia.

The granting of the scholarship is subject to a budgetary approval of the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context” for the second funding period in the Excellence Initiative of the German central and state governments. A decision is expected by June 16, 2012. On the condition that the Cluster is successful, the funding period for the new scholarships would start on November 1, 2012.

Applicants must hold an M.A. or equivalent in a discipline of the humanities or social sciences with an above-average grade, and must propose a research project with a strong affiliation to the research framework of the Cluster. Applications are accepted until May 15, 2012, exclusively via our Online Application System.

The Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies is a central element of the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context”. The Cluster’s interdisciplinary research focuses on transcultural entanglements within Asia and Europe from historical as well as contemporary perspectives. It connects methods and theories from the humanities and social sciences to challenge the eurocentrism and methodological nationalism still prevalent in scholarly discussions.
