Student Assistant with Knowledge of Latin and Romance Languages

The Start-Up Professorship (historical and philological focus) at the Cluster of Excellence Asia and Europe is looking for a Student Assistant for 30 hours per month as of April 1st 2014.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Teaching assistance in MA courses on the History of the Euromediterranean (ca. 300 to 1600 CE)
  2. Various tasks including independent bibliographical research and source analysis linked to a project dealing with the entanglement of Latin and Arabic from Antiquity to the modern age and the Latin, Spanish and Italian documentation of the discovery of South America.

We are looking for applicants with the following profile:

  1. Good to excellent knowledge of Latin and at least one Romance language and the willingness to engage regularly with Latin, Spanish, Italian and French texts from different periods
  2. Computer literate (Microsoft Office, Zotero)
  3. Interest in a long-term position (min. 1 year)
  4. BA or MA in the humanities or social sciences, preferably history and/or Near Eastern Studies
  5. Dependable, detail-oriented
  6. Copy-Editing experience a plus
