2 Start-up Professorships in Transcultural Studies

Heidelberg University and the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context" welcomes applications for

2 Start-up Professorships (W3) in Transcultural Studies with a focus on Asia and Europe in a global context

The successful candidates will take up these positions as soon as possible.

The Cluster's research focuses on transcultural exchange processes within and between Asia and Europe from historical as well as contemporary perspectives. The thematic focus of one professorship is on historical/philological research, the other professorship has a focus in the social sciences.

The successful candidates will develop the transcultural and transdisciplinary research potential of the Cluster "Asia and Europe in a Global Context", strengthen the Cluster’s abilities to handle transcultural issues that cross cultural, geographic, linguistic, and media borders, and contribute to opening career paths in transcultural studies for promising PhD and post-doctoral researchers.

Applicants are expected to hold an internationally recognized doctoral degree; should have a strong publication record (second book or equivalent) of high scholarly acumen with elements connected to the Cluster´s research focus as well as, according to paragraph 47, section 2 of the State Law for Higher Education (Landeshochschulgesetz), a habilitation, a successfully assessed junior professorship, or a comparable qualification.
They should have achieved international visibility within their field and have a strong research and teaching record that reflects their pursuit of transcultural and transdisciplinary approaches; successful acquisition of external funding is welcomed. Fluency in English is required, fluency in German appreciated.

The term for this professorship will be limited to the Cluster’s funding period (“Beamter auf Zeit”) until 31.10.2017.

To apply, please submit an outline of the research you propose to undertake in the period until 31.10.2017 including a roadmap of planned applications for external funding; a CV; a list of publications; of successful applications for third party funding; of courses taught, and of the names and contact information of three scholars familiar with your work. Please also include a portfolio with a maximum of five of your publications (articles or book chapters), which best represent your research.
