Summer School 2015 - Application

Application Procedure

Fill in our online form and upload images here. You will need to submit a letter of motivation of not more than 500 words defining your field of interest and explaining how your work may benefit from participation in the summer school. As part of your application, you are also required to upload a minimum of 1 up to 3 images from your research that you intend to use in developing your visual essays during the summer school.

Please note that images should be in JPEG format, sized 640 x 480 pixels or larger, with resolution of at least 72dpi, with a maximum file size of 10MB each. Since the visual essays are being planned for publication online, it is recommended that applicants bear in mind the possibility of obtaining copyright for the images.

Applications for this Summer School are now closed.  

You will be notified of the results of selection via email by June 19, 2015.

General Admission Requirements

 

Eligibility

To be eligible for participation, students must have completed at least one year of a post-graduate or MA program (college or university) or been admitted into a Ph.D. program at the beginning of the Summer School. We also accept registrations by adult learners and professionals. Up to 5 ECTS credits can be awarded to students currently enrolled at a European university.

Language Proficiency

Participants must have proficiency in English on an advanced intermediate level or higher in order to fully benefit from the Summer School. All presentations and discussions are held in English.

Insurance

Students must have health insurance that is valid in Germany (preferably Europe) for the duration of the Summer School. We strongly recommend that participants also purchase accident and indemnity/liability insurance.

Costs

 

Participation Fee

The participation fee for the Summer School 2015 is 250 Euro. Internal applicants (students of Heidelberg University) only pay € 125,-. It covers the costs for the Summer School package including:

  • Lecture and seminar programme
  • Poster session about your current research (poster to be prepared in advance)
  • Summer School dinner
  • Lunch, coffee and cold drinks during the course
  • Local sightseeing programme

We ask for your kind understanding that parts of the Summer School package cannot be deselected in order to reduce the fee. Participants will receive further information on the processing of payments in the invitation letter.

Payments have to be completed by June 30, 2015.

Travel and Accommodation

Participants will be expected to arrange their own travel to and accommodation in Heidelberg for the duration of the Summer School. We will be happy to provide advice and a comprehensive list of accommodation options and prices.

Fee Waiver for Applicants from Non-OECD Countries

The Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context” offers up to 3 fee waivers for participants applying from non-OECD countries. These waivers cover the participation fee of 250 Euro.

Visa Requirements

Please enquire as early as possible (at least 8 weeks prior to the trip) about visa requirements at a German consulate. You should apply for a visa at the German embassy or consulate in your home country. Provided you have been selected, we will send you an invitation letter which may be required for the visa application. For further questions, please contact your German embassy or consulate.

It is also recommended that you bring a document (i.e. from your parents or funding agency) to Germany which certifies that you can cover the costs of accommodation, etc. German embassies and consulates require all applicants to procure health insurance coverage for their stay in Germany. All applicants have to provide the corresponding certification.

Further Requirements for Invited Participants only: "Research Poster"

In order to make the Summer School a success, we kindly ask you to send us a “research poster” describing your research project, visual material and methods you would like to use. Only invited participants will be asked to send in a poster via e-mail attachment. Please keep in mind that you will need to prepare the poster in June. It should be completed and sent in no later than June 30, 2015.
