Encyclopedia Database

The Encyclopedia Database arose from Project D11, "Hidden Grammars of Transculturality - Migration of Encyclopaedic Knowledge and Power". The purpose of the Encyclopedia Database is to "make the hidden grammars of transculturality visible".

The database is designed as a transcultural and translingual platform that invites scholars from different fields to join interactive discussion. The flow of concepts between societies, the taxonomy of knowledge, as well as the circumstances of encyclopedic publishing are waiting to be analyzed in a transcultural perspective. The database presents extracts from encyclopedic writings from Europe and Asia in the 19th and 20th centuries.
