Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung reports on film by Jürgen Schaflechner

The German Newspaper Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung (RNZ) reported on a film by Cluster member, ethnologist and filmmaker Jürgen Schaflechner. The film “Thrust into Heaven” focuses on forced conversion of Hindu women to Islam in Pakistan. Jürgen Schaflechner is a member of Research Group “MC3.4 Negotiating Religious Identities among Hindu Communities in Pakistan” at the Cluster.

Deutschlandfunk interviews Barbara Mittler

German radio station Deutschlandfunk broadcast an interview with Director Prof. Barbara Mittler. In the course of the Cluster’s Annual Conference 2016, Prof. Mittler talked about the future challenges and opportunities of small disciplines in Germany’s academic landscape.

RNZ reports on HERA Project

The German newspaper Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung (RNZ) published an article on the international research project “East Asian Uses of the European Past: Tracing Braided Chronotypes”, which is led by Prof. Joachim Kurtz, Professor for “Intellectual History” at the Heidelberg Center for Transcultural Studies (HCTS). The project investigates, how Milestones of European history are interpreted in East Asia and in what respect they are related to East Asian history. The project is supported by the European funding initiative Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA).

Monica Juneja on Deutschlandfunk

German radio station Deutschlandfunk interviewed Prof. Monica Juneja, HCTS Professor “Global Art History” and Speaker of Research Area D “Historicities and Heritage”. In “Kultur heute”, Prof. Juneja talked about the politization of cultural heritage, as exemplified by the destruction and reconstruction of the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria. The interview was conducted prior to the Cluster’s Annual Conference 2016, titled “Making, Sustaining, Breaking – The Politics of Heritage and Culture”.

Joseph Maran and Philipp Stockhammer quoted by Haaretz

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz published an article on “Excavation of Philistine Gath Finds Startling Similarities to Cypriot Cities”, which focuses on the origin of the Philistines. In this article, Acting Director of the Cluster, Prof. Joseph Maran, and Cluster member Prof. Philipp Stockhammer (LMU München) point out the Greek, Mycenaean, Minoan and Cypriot role in this development.

Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung announces “Golden Chopstick Film Gala“

The German newspapper Rhein- Neckar-Zeitung (RNZ) published an article on the “Golden Chopstick Film Gala”, which took place on July 16 at the DAI. There, students presented silent films which they created as part of the seminar “Chinese Silent Cinema 1920-1935”, held by Paul Pickowicz and Liying Sun at the Cluster.

Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung reports about Michelle Pfeiffer and Karl Hjalte Maack Raun

German newspaper Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung (RNZ) reported about PhD students Michelle Pfeiffer and Karl Hjalte Maack Raun ("Junior Research Group "Digital Humanities and Digital Cultural Heritage") under the title “Mit viel Technik in die Natur“. The article gives insight into their research and work within the subject area of computational archaeology.

German newspaper Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung (RNZ) published an interview with ethnologist Sahra Besky (Brown University) were she questions the current practice of faire trade. Sarah Besky was invited by Junior Research Group C15 “Agrarian Alternatives” to give a lecture at the Cluster, titled “The Land in Gorkhaland: On the Edges of Belonging in Darjeeling, India”.

Science portal L.I.S.A. interviews Niels Gutschow

Science portal L.I.S.A. hosted by the Gerda Henkel Foundation broadcast a video-interview with former Cluster member Prof. Dr.-Ing. Niels Gutschow (project D4 “Aspects of Authenticity”) entitled  “Zerbrechliches Erbe”. In the film, Gutschow speaks about the current situation and reconstruction in Nepal after the earthquakes in 2015.

Unispiegel reports about Cluster Members

Heidelberg University newspaper ''Unispiegel'' reports on several activities by Cluster Members: Prof. Christiane Brosius has been appointed as a fellow of the Marsilius-Kolleg, Prof. Sumathi Ramaswamy receiving the Anneliese Maier Research Award by the Humboldt Foundation and Prof. Axel Michaels receiving the Höffmann Academic Award. Furthermore it features a report on the online documentation of the “Elderscapes” website.
