Session on Popculture and Avantgarde

The Theater of the World festival and the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies invited to the event "Sampling, Remix and Mash Up between Popculture and Avantgarde" on May 29 in Mannheim. Prof. Barbara Mittler moderated the session with lectures by Prof. Henry Keazor, Dr. Ulrich Blanché and Clemens Schnur from Heidelberg University. 

The event took place in context of the "Theater of the World" Festival. It featured three lectures on music videos and art forms for and in the internet/web 2.0. First, Dr. Ulrich Blanché spoke about "Flaneur digital – Street Art for the Internet". Subsequently, Clemens Schnur gave a lecture on "(Re-)Creativity in the web 2.0". In the afternoon, Prof. Henry Keazor talked "On the Hybridisation of the Music Video". Prof. Barbara Mittler moderated the session.

The event "Sampling, Remix and Mash Up between Popculture and Avantgarde" took place on Thursday, May 29, from 11.00 am to 4.30 pm, at the National Theater in Mannheim. It was organised by Prof. Dr. Henry Keazor from the Institute of European Art History at Heidelberg University.

The cooperation with the National Theater Mannheim is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Barbara Mittler, Co-Director of the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context" as well as Co-Director of the recently opened Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies. She also organised a round table discussion on the Chekhov revue "Tararabumbia" on May 19 at the Karl Jaspers Centre with the participation of Matthias Lilienthal (Theater of the World), Prof. Dorothea Redepenning (Department of Musicology), Prof. Tanja Penter (History), Dr. Karoline Thaidigsmann (Slavic Studies), and Dr. Frank Grüner (Cluster "Asia and Europe").

The "Theater of the World 2014" is a festival of the Internationales Theaterinstitut, organized by the National Theater Mannheim, and promoted by the city of Mannheim, the Baden-Württemberg Foundation, and the Minister of State for Culture and Media. Under the patronage of Federal President Joachim Gauck, it is organized by Matthias Lilienthal. Matthias Lilienthal, curator of the "Theater of the World 2014", is an influential dramaturgist and intendant.
