Programme for Transcultural Student Conference online

14. Mär. 2018

The programme for the first Transcultural Student Conference “The Theory and Practice of Transculturation”, taking place on April 27, is now online. The call for papers for the conference received positive feedback and many applications from national and international master's and PhD students.

The student conference, which is organized by the Cluster’s Student Association — the MATS Fachschaft — will take place at the Karl Jaspers Centre from 9 am to 7 pm on Friday, April 27. It aims at encouraging an international dialogue on the field of Transcultural Studies and its methodology. Addressing master's and doctoral researchers working in this or a related field, it seeks to discuss issues including the practical aspects of transculturation during a time when terms such as multiculturalism have become generic terms for policy makers.

The conference, which has attracted contributors from numerous renowned international universities including Cambridge, Leiden, and Durham, will open with a keynote address by Prof. Monica Juneja, the Professor for Global Art History at the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies. The first panel after the keynote is themed “Religion and Art in Transculturation”. After a lunch break, the conference will continue with three more panels on “Mobility and Placemaking”, “Knowledge in Practice” and “Identities and Narratives." The conference will be closed off with a round-table session that will provide the participants with space for concluding thoughts and remarks.

You will find more details on the conference and the programme here.
