Pinakothek presents works of Niels Gutschow

16. Aug. 2010

Niels Gutschow, coordinator of research project D4 "Aspects of Authenticity", has contributed the documentation of twelve projects to an exhibition on architecture at the Pinakothek of Modernity in Munich.

His documentation of twelve projects in Germany, Japan, China, Myanmar, Mongolia, Nepal and India will be presented in the exhibition "The History of Reconstruction | The Construction of History" which will be launched on July 21st in Pinakothek's Museum of Architecture of the Technical University Munich. Besides, he has contributed an essay that focuses on ideas of ritual renewal of architectural artefacts.

The exhibition refers to the heated debate on "Reconstruction" both in the public arena and among experts. Thus, various motives in favour of reconstructing lost buildings are presented and analysed in the exhibition, focusing on some 150 representative examples including models, paintings, plans, photographs and animations.

Prof. Dr. ing. Niels Gutschow is honorary professor at Heidelberg University and coordinator of research project D4 " Aspects of Authenticity in Architectural Heritage Conservation" at the Cluster of Exellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context". He specialized both in war-time and post-World War II history of urban planning in Germany and Europe and in urban space and rituals in India and Nepal. His transcultural project "Bricks - the Tower of Bhaktapur in Nepal" has received several awards.

Further information about the exhibition is available at the Museum of Architecture of the Technical University at the Pinakothek of Modernity in Munich.
