Meeting of South Asian Alumni

Former and current scholars from the Cluster and from Heidelberg University in South Asia came together for an inaugural Alumni meeting. The event was held at the end of March in New Delhi, India.
On March 25, the Heidelberg Centre South Asia (HCSA) and Heidelberg Alumni International (HAI) invited former and current scholars to an inaugural meeting of Heidelberg Alumni South Asia (HASA). HASA is the alumni initiative for all alumni of Heidelberg’s Ruprecht-Karls University who live and work in South Asia.
On the agenda for the meeting were sessions to explore chances and possibilities of alumni work on a national, regional and global scale, as well as expectations and plans for future endeavours of HASA. Among the speakers of the event were Cord Meier-Klodt, Charge d’Affairs of the German Embassy in India, Prof. Bernhard Eitel, Rector of Heidelberg University, Prof. Axel Michaels, HCSA Coordinator and Acting Director of the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context”, Silke Rodenberg, Head of HAI, and Mujibar Rehman, chairman of HASA. Furthermore, Prof. Peter Meusburger, Distinguished Senior Professor at the Department of Geography at Heidelberg University, gave a lecture on “The Geography of Knowledge.”
The inaugural meeting for HASA was one of three events Heidelberg University celebrates between March 23 and 28, 2012 in New Delhi. Apart from this gathering, there is also a meeting of Heidelberg Alumni International (HAI) as well as the 50th anniversary celebration of the South Asia Institute (SAI).
