A fascinating range of lectures at the Summer School
27. Jul. 2010
A fascinating range of lectures and seminars on "Knowledge on the Move" is currently being given at the Summer School 2010. The presentation of all the many different perspectives and positions has resulted in fruitful discussions among the participants.
One of the highlights was the keynote lecture by Rivka Feldhay from Tel Aviv University on Monday. Under the title "Migrating Knowledge: An Epistemic-Political Stance", she focused on Russian migrants in Israel during the 20th and 21st century. Further lectures were given by Dhruv Raina (New Delhi) and Henrique Leitao (Lisbon).
On Tuesday, Dagmar Schäfer (MPIWG, Berlin) and Marcus Popplow (Heidelberg) spoke about "Agents, Networks, and Pathways". Yu Li (Williams College) and Roland Wenzlhuemer (Heidelberg) looked at the role the media of circulation play in movements of knowledge.
A special feature is the course on "Digital Storytelling in the History of Science and Thought", which introduces new approaches to the presentation of research results using digital narrative techniques such as podcasts and short films.
Most of the presentations sparked fruitful discussions among the participants. A total of 28 young scholars from 15 countries are participating in this year's Summer School.
The Summer School "Knowledge on the Move" is run by the Cluster "Asia and Europe in a Global Context" at the Karl Jaspers Centre for Advanced Transcultural Studies, from 25th to 29th July 2010. It is organised by Joachim Kurtz, Cluster Professor for Intellectual History.
