Conference on “Religion and Violence” in Jerusalem

05. Okt. 2010

Research project D1 „Historicizing Violence“ organised an international conference on “Religion and Violence” in Jerusalem, Israel. The conference was held at the Hebrew University from September 14 to 15, 2010.

Under the title “Religion and Violence in Transcultural Contexts. Historicizing Traumatic Experiences from the Middle Ages to Modern Times”, scholars from various disciplines discussed about the entanglements of religion and violence, which have often been perceived as traumatic experiences and therefore have had a profound impact on historical memory. The aim of the conference was to understand how such phenomena have been historicized in both scholarly and popular communities.

The international conference is part of a cooperative programme between Heidelberg University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. It was organised by members of the research project D1 “Historicizing Violence”.
