Call for Papers: "The Asia-Pacific Maritime World"
19. Dez. 2011
Researchers are invited to submit papers for the conference "The Asia-Pacific Maritime World: Connected Histories in the Age of Empire" taking place at the Karl Jaspers Centre from July 6 to 8, 2012.
The aim of this international conference is to question the ways in which scholars tend to divide the maritime world into spatial blocs such as the "Atlantic World", the "Mediterranean" bloc, or the "Indian Ocean". The conference focuses on the nature of maritime connections between two such spheres, namely the "Pacific" and the "East Asian Mediterranean", in the long 19th century.
The organisers welcome submissions from scholars working within history and related disciplines, and on all aspects of East Asia and the Pacific World. Interested researchers are encouraged to submit their papers by January 31, 2012. Abstracts of 400-500 words should be sent in a Word document to Ms Shupin Lang.
The conference is organised by Prof. Harald Fuess (Heidelberg University), and by Dr. Martin Dusinberre (Newcastle) on behalf of research project C12 "The Asian Sea".
